A Day at the Office
I am lucky enough to have a “real” job, a full-time paid position, where I can work from home. This set-up does have its down sides, but most of the sides are up. I try to vary my location from time to time and have even worked out of my company’s actual bricks & mortar office – which is unbelievably gorgeous. However gorgeous it may be, I still prefer the moment’s commute from my bedroom to my computer.
As you may know, because you’re here so you have at least a modicum of interest in lazy perfectionism, I get bored. I like change and exploration and discovery and beauty found everywhere and anywhere. So, I’ve tried to make it a point to work from a variety of locations.
A view of our beautiful local library – love that woodwork, the vaulted ceilings, the carvings…and BOOKS
Sometimes, I work from either the front porch or the back deck. Our road is fairly busy, so it can get distracting in the front. But, the front offers fantastic gardens that flower spring through to late fall. There are lots of perennials as well as a host of annuals put in every year. Directly on the front porch are planters with annuals; this year they housed begonias. These were very attractive to bees, so I can sit out there and work AND watch the bees.
I love bees. I love honey. I love bee products. I love the life lessons that bees teach us. I’m so happy to have lots and lots of options for the bees to choose from here in our yard. Along with the bees, hummingbirds and butterflies are also attracted here. Hummingbirds are hilarious with how tiny they are compared to how big they behave. Don’t mess with a hummingbird – they are territorial to the end and do not tolerate strange hummingbirds in their zone. It’s fun to hear them zinging around while I work. Both the bees and the birds (hummingbirds, but I couldn’t resist the pun!) remind me of my work ethic. Work hard. Save for later. Defend your territory and don’t let strangers take it from you.
Here is a selection of our flora and fauna:
